What is Food?Sick?

Have you have ever felt that some foods are making you feel unwell but can’t put your finger on what foods are making you sick?

Food?Sick is an iPhone Application that is used to monitor whether what you eat and the environment around you can influence your symptoms and how you feel.

How does Food?Sick work?

Food?Sick allows you to record your food intake through the day as well as recording your symptoms. You simply type in what you eat and note any symptoms that you experience into the custom-designed app. This allows you to track any patterns of particular foods or environmental factors which trigger symptoms.

However, as food intolerances are not always obvious to the casual observer, Food?Sick can then email a report to your dietitian or other health professional who can use their professional judgement to help you to identify any patterns in your food & symptoms.

What foods can I track?

Food?Sick has a list of commonly eaten foods that you can choose from a scrollable list. As well as this, you can add your favourite foods to the list as you go. These foods will be added to the scrollable list so you can easily choose them next time.

See the Step-by-Step guide for how to enter your food intake to your Food?Sick diary.

Can I record how much I eat?

Food?Sick allows you to add any extra notes about the foods you eat in comments section. You may choose to add the amount of food you ate, or any other details eg sauces or spices that you have added to the food.

I forgot to enter yesterday's food!

You can record any foods, symptoms or other factors retrospectively if you forget to add the details at the time. You cannot enter any future data e.g. for tomorrow or any day thereafter.

My symptoms are not on the list

Food?Sick has a list of common symptoms that a person may experience after eating particular foods. Your symptoms may be experienced immediately or up to 24 hours or more after consumption of these foods.

As well as this you can add your common symptoms to the list as you go. These symptoms will be added to the scrollable list so you can easily choose them next time.

What if I don't have a dietitian or Health Professional?

You can collect plenty of data of your food & symptoms and create report tables.

You may be able to see some patterns of what foods or other things trigger your symptoms. However indentifying food intolerances can sometimes be confusing and you need to be careful not to cut out foods or foods groups unnecessarily as this can result in inadequate nutrition.

A dietitian specialised in managing food intolerances is well-placed to help you identify what foods and other factors are influencing your symptoms.

Your local doctor may be able to help you with further allergy and food intolerance testing and referrals to appropriate specialists and dietitians.

The information page has some weblinks for how you can find a dietitian in your area, or you can organise a Skype consultation with a Food?Sick dietitian.

What are Other Factors?

Your symptoms may be triggered not only by foods but by other things including environmental factors (e.g. cigarette smoke, perfume) and lifestyle factors (e.g. stress, sleep deprivation). It is important to record these so that you don’t blame food unnecessarily.

How many people can use Food?Sick on my iPhone?

You can record food & symptom details for yourself as well as family members. For example, Mum may choose to keep a record of her own foods and symptoms as well as creating a User Profile to keep records for each of her children. You can keep as many user profiles as you like!

How much does Food?Sick cost?

You can purchase Food?Sick from the iTunes store for approximately US$2.99 or €2.39, adjusted for your currency.

Food?Sick is competitively priced – it is cheaper than buying a notebook to record your food intake! Food?Sick will not charge you to send your email report to your dietitian, however your usual internet download charges may apply.
